Our Ethics & Sourcing Policy
The term "ethically sourced" gets thrown around a lot within this industry. Don't get us wrong, it's important to maintain sustainable sourcing practices, but there are businesses and artists out there who will just say everything has been ethically sourced to build trust with customers so that they will buy from them. But what does "ethically sourced" even mean? How do you know if something has actually been "ethically sourced"?
At the end of the day, everyone has different definitions for what is and is not "ethically sourced" and I encourage everyone reading this to do your own research and make up your own minds on what you believe is ethical. We prioritize sustainable practices.
For us personally, we will source our insects and animals from sustainable sources where they were not taken from their natural habitat nor does it impact their population rates (another reason we will NEVER source and sell bat specimens). These specimens also must not be CITES protected nor native to Australia where we are based.
Insects are sourced from conservation farms and insect breeders across the world where they typically live out their full life cycle and are collected once they pass on. A percentage of these insects including butterflies are also released into the wild to increase their population count and promote ecological diversity.
Specimens that are A1 quality (perfect condition) are very rarely found naturally deceased and have often times been humanely put to rest with heat/gas or in a freezer by insect farmers. Specimens that are A- quality or less (rubbed wings, missing antennae, obvious imperfections, etc.) are found naturally deceased.
You're likely wondering by now, how are these specimens being put to rest by those methods "humane" let alone "ethical"? Firstly, the methods involved with putting these beautiful creatures to rest involve the least amount of pain. I don't know about you but we also would much prefer crossing over this way instead of meeting our inevitable end being eaten by predators and other various ways bugs die in the wild. Insects, especially butterflies, have a lot of predators coming after them in the wild, which makes it very rare for 90% of the eggs laid in the wild to reach adult form. Insect farms make it possible for up to 99% of these eggs to reach adult form.
Our taxidermy and animal parts are sourced from animals who have been found deceased in the wild, by-products of the meat and dairy or pest control industries.

How fast will my order be shipped?
We pick and pack orders every day and post them out via Australia Post from Monday - Friday.
We aim to have all orders placed before 3pm Monday - Friday AEST shipped the same day, excluding public holidays. If we are experiencing a higher volume of orders than usual, it may take an extra day to be shipped.
You will receive a tracking number once your order has been dispatched.
Corvus Oddities currently delivers throughout Australia and internationally. Shipping costs are calculated based on the weight of the items at checkout.
Do you have any free shipping offers?
Orders valued at $89 AUD or more in Australia and New Zealand get free standard shipping.
Orders valued at $199 AUD or more in Australia and New Zealand get free express shipping and a mystery gift.
Postage is calculated at checkout according to the current rates and weight of the items.
Any orders placed requiring signature on delivery, please add a note at checkout requesting this.
Sustainable Packaging & Dispatch Processes
In addition to our sustainable specimen sourcing mentioned above, we also aim for our packaging and dispatching processes to be as sustainable as possible.
How we do this right now is by using biodegradable and compostable void fill, bubble wrap, packing boxes, padded mailers and labels.
Our labels are printed via a thermal printer which reduces the need for consumables such as ink and toner, plus reduces the amount of energy used in comparison to inkjet or laser printers, contributing to a smaller carbon footprint.
We will also reuse packaging materials from supplier orders we receive.
You can feel good knowing your order will be dispatched with environmentally-friendly or recycled materials!

Return Policy
Return Policy
We have a 30-day return policy, which means you have 30 days after receiving your item to request a return.
To be eligible for a return, your item must be in the same condition that you received it, unworn, unused, unwashed, with tags, no marks, in its original packaging. Please keep items clear from animal fur, makeup stains and cigarette smoke. You’ll also need to include a note with your details and order number. We reserve the right to reject any items that are returned in unsaleable condition.

If your return is accepted, you will receive instructions on how and where to send your package. Customers are responsible for return postage costs, unless there was an error with your order or you have received a faulty/damaged item. If this is the case then we will cover all costs to ensure you are not out of pocket. Any returns received without instructions will be processed as a store credit.
We strongly recommend double checking our product descriptions for dimensions and any important details before confirming your order. If you are ever unsure about one of our products, please contact us for assistance.

Damages and issues
Please inspect your order upon receiving it and contact us immediately if the item is defective, damaged or if you receive the wrong item, so that we can evaluate the issue and make it right.
Exceptions / non-returnable items
Certain types of items cannot be returned including: herbs, downloadable software products, jewellery, piercing jewellery, beauty products, personal care items and cosmetics due to Australian health & hygiene regulations. Please note we follow all ACCC requirements and refunds/exchanges will be given on all faulty items not already stated in the description. Please get in touch if you have questions or concerns about your specific item.
Unfortunately, we cannot accept returns on gift cards or final sale items. Full priced items that were purchased during a sale event, eg. 10% OFF sale, can be returned as normal. FINAL SALE items cannot be returned. We follow all ACCC requirements and refunds will be given on all faulty items not already stated in the description. Gift cards are not redeemable for cash.
Exchanges
We only replace/exchange items if they are defective or damaged. If you need to exchange it for the same item, please send us an email at hello@corvusoddities.com. Please be mindful that it may take time for your exchanged product to be delivered depending on where you live.
Refunds
Whilst we are not required to provide a refund or exchange if you change your mind, we want you to be happy, so please contact us at hello@corvusoddities.com. You are entitled to a refund if an item has a major problem such as:
- Item/s has a problem that would have stopped someone from purchasing the item/s if they were aware it is unsafe.
- Is significantly different from the sample or description.
- Does not do what we said it would, or what you asked for and can't be easily fixed.
Alternatively, you can choose to keep the item/s and we can compensate you with a partial refund or store credit for any drop in value.
If the problem is not major, we can repair the item within a reasonable time. If it is not repaired within a reasonable time, you can request a refund or replacement.
If your item/s are defective or damaged, please contact us at hello@corvusoddities.com to arrange a return. We will notify you once we’ve received and inspected your return, and let you know if the refund was approved or not. If approved, you’ll be automatically refunded on your original payment method within 3-5 business days. Please remember it can take some time for your bank or credit card company to process and post the refund too.

Tracking
It is highly recommended to use a trackable shipping service or purchase shipping insurance, particularly if you are shipping an expensive item. We cannot guarantee that we will receive your returned item.
