These are real, genuine, dried and preserved Madagascan Sunset Moths that are ready for you to pin and spread for your entomology displays and crafts.
Scientific name: Urania ripheus, Chrysiridia rhipheus.
The Madagascan Sunset Moth is a species of day-flying moth of the family Uraniidae. It is considered one of the most impressive and appealing-looking lepidopterans. It is commonly featured in most coffee table books on Lepidoptera and is much sought after by collectors. The colours originate from optical interference in the iridescent parts of the wings, while the black parts are pigmented.
You will receive one Madagascan Sunset Moth inside a paper envelope to protect it.
The quality of these moths are A- condition. Although they are in excellent condition and super vibrant, they may have antennae or legs that come loose which need to be repaired. They can easily be glued back on and positioned.
I have included a photo of one of the moths on my hand to help give you an idea on its size. I also have a listing of a spread Madagascan Sunset Moth inside a shadow box if you would like to check out my store to see how they look spread and inside a display.
Our moths are sourced from conservation farms where they typically live out their full life cycle and are collected once they pass on. From there, they are professionally preserved and sold to either businesses or education centres. This whole process is mostly run by small and family owned industries who are indigenous to the land they protect.
